What is Amatsu?
Amatsu is a modern adaptation of soft tissue based manipulation therapy that has been practiced in Japan for over 2,000 years.
It is based on the principles of natural movement and can be used to help you with many musculo-skeletal and lifestyle related conditions as well as maintaining your general health and well-being.
Practitioners treat your whole body and not just your symptoms addressing both structural misalignments and also the effects of lifestyle factors such as emotional and environmental stressors.
Amatsu therapy is suitable for people of all ages and mobilities.
Philosophy of Amatsu
Amatsu’s founding principle is ‘Gairon’. It is a Japanese word, which loosely translates as ‘the big picture’ or ‘consider all factors’.
This is relevant within a treatment because a practitioner assesses the entire body and not just the site of pain, looking at localized symptoms within the bigger picture of the whole body.
Within the bigger picture are the elements of the Godai, or ‘The Big Five’.
Structural or Physical – bones, muscles, ligaments and organs
Chemical – hormones, nutrition and digestion
Electrical – nervous system, energy levels and systems
Environmental – lifestyle behaviours
Mental or Emotional – beliefs and emotions, thought processes and values
Amatsu treatments will impact the structure of the body but, because of the interconnectedness of these systems, the other elements will be affected. By treating the body as a whole, not only will the structural aspect improve but it will also begin to have a positive impact on other parts of the Godai within the body.
The Godai (Go-Dye) works within the Gairon (Guy-ron) to create a complete understanding of the reason behind and the solution to the injury.
How a treatment works
On your first visit a detailed personal history will be taken, with the aim of assessing the fullest picture of your health and your body’s coping strategies.
Your practitioner will then assess your whole body, using a combination of observation, testing and palpation (touch) to gather information about the current health of your body.
Your practitioner will discuss with you how the different techniques work and why they are doing and what they are trying to achieve. Each balance is tailored to your individual body’s needs each and every time you visit. You will be asked for your feedback as to your health and well-being between balances to determine how your body is processing the physical adjustments in the self-healing process.
We believe in educating our clients to take control of their own health. Many clients, once they have resolved their initial condition, return on a regular basis to maintain their health. Many come for a balance on a regular basis whilst others return as and when they feel the need. A balance on regular basis may help you to prevent the everyday stresses of life from building up within your body.
We aim to teach you to listen to and read the signs your body sends out to you. It is well known that ‘prevention is better than cure’.
